The Enabling Garden is expanding and renovated the kitchen garden Spring 2016.
The improved garden demonstrates ways to make vegetable gardening accessible. A variety of raised beds and vertical gardening planters have been built and installed. The beds have all been planted for 2016.
With the expanded space, master gardener volunteers are now able to grow more fruits and vegetables for the Caring Hands Food Pantry in Altoona, IA. By August, the Enabling Garden has already donated 191 pounds of produce to the pantry in 2016!
If you are thinking of putting in a kitchen garden at your home, stop by the Enabling Garden and get ideas on how to save space, make accessible raised beds, and compost. You will also see examples of how vegetables are mulched, trellised and trained.
